Take time out to snicker at yourself... with a Snickers!
New York Post Online Edition's Michael Starr reports Kirstie Alley is taking part in a remarkable new series of ads for Jenny Craig.
Like a reality show ("The Biggest Loser," not so much) Alley is going to be working on her weight loss in the sunshine -- tracking her progress in the commercials. I can see it now: "This week was really hard. I had to go to a fundraiser where they had chocolate-covered pineapple upside-down cake. I convinced my seatmate to let me have a bite of hers..." "Join Kirstie on her path to weight loss at your local Jenny Craig center!"
But I love it. If they make the commercials "mini-shows" -- 60-second episodes from the scale to the talking groups (or whatever Jenny Craig participants do behind closed doors) to the kitchen and dining room -- so much the better. Oh, and she's even going to blog on Jenny Craig's website!
"...Jenny Craig's food is hands-down the yummiest," says Alley. Hoo boy. Can you see me rolling my eyes?
And whether it's HBO or whomever at work, there ain't no bloody way this is a coincidence: Coincidence or not, Jenny Craig plays a role in the opening scene of "Fat Actress" [Alley's new docudramedy].
In the scene, Alley falls on her bathroom floor, wailing, after stepping on a scale and seeing how much she weighs.
While she's on the floor, her cellphone rings -- it's her agent ... with an offer from Jenny Craig! Somebody in marketing got really creative with their brain and their lunching. That is, unless, I don't get the concept of the "Curb Your Enthusiasm"-like "docudramedy". Is "Curb" entirely fictional but based on true aspects of Larry David's life?
....Fine, fine, fine ---- I'll put it on my Netflix list. Sheesh.Labels: Originally published
