Goodnight, Kilby

Did they just throw away the monologue in favor of faith healing and whatnot?

Well, that’s cheap writing for you. I don’t mean getting a writer for cheap in terms of money. I mean cheap as in it doesn’t require a lot of complex thought.

And now he’s opening the Macallan. ‘Bout time.

Now, “The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn” may be “ending” but “The Late Late Show” won’t be ending, to be sure. I saw an interview he did with KCBS Los Angeles and it kind of seemed like he was under the misapprehension that once he left the show was ending and his colleagues and crew wouldn’t have jobs. Yeah, not so much. You can apologize for leaving, Craig, no problem, but don’t make like the world is ending. We can party with someone else just fine, thanks.

Cheers to late night’s biggest self-congratulatory personality. Leno is blue collar, Letterman is white collar, Conan is self-deprecating, and Craiggers is inflated ego. They all have their places. They all had to -- to follow up Johnny Carson.

Thanks given to Madeline Smithberg but NOT Lizz Winstead. Nice.

Guests so far: Nikki Ziering, Will Ferrell

Craig’s longest job was 5 years. This was even longer than he was at ESPN on Sportscenter. Hilarious. And he’s walking away? Drunk on TV no less? To do MOVIES? Craig Kilborn is no actor. Great faux anchor & host, no actor.

And of course he’s probably going to take 5 Questions away with him like he did when he left the Daily. Jerk.

I haven’t been watching all these past few weeks. Are they going to have Gibby and Goldy on the list of guest hosts when they come back in two weeks or so after reruns? They should, in addition to Amy Sedaris. How about Jon Favreau or Vince Vaughn? There are dozens of people they could get to guest host that people would love to watch. Will Ferrell? Jillian Barberie? Or is she too B-list, too LA? Aw, c’mon, they could turn this into a semi-“Friday Night” like with Rita Sever.

Or not.

Will Ferrell is now consoling one audience member about... who happens to be a hot babe playing Craig’s mother ... about Craig’s leaving. Yeah, CBS is so unhappy about it they promoted the bloody hell out of it. I’m kidding. It’s more like CBS is so pissed at the upset to the show that they’re trying to sweep it under the rug. They promoted Letterman’s show tonight on the promo that is used in 11pm newscasts, but not Craig’s last show. This did kind of come as a surprise, after all, and is kind of happening quickly.

Nobody cares. Is it because of him, should he take it personally, or is it because it’s such a low profile show?

Ah, there’s the beloved Vince Vaughn. These two men kind of epitomize the “21st Century Swingers” type of mentality. We don’t have Frank, Dino and Sammy left, but we have the Craig, Vince and others. Maybe everybody on “The Entourage.”

Ah, reminiscences, of the ascots. “Remember that?”

Vince Vaughn trying to destroy some portion of the set quickly found out the backdrops are all large cutout pieces.

Hey! Gotta love low quality Internet live shots for a network show provided by FocusVision from Las Vegas at the CBS Television City store. How much would a satellite window freakin’ cost? ...Well, I suppose now that I think about it they’d have to rent a truck too. This way they just opened the line they already had (‘cause I know they’ve done FocusVision live shots before from Vegas), threw a camera operator out there, a couple props, grabbed Wayne Newton -- okay so maybe they had to have a producer out there too -- or the freelance producer could have shot on his own, who knows? -- and they were done.

Ah, Adam West. With dark glasses. On screen in a block under 60 seconds. Yep, they’re still selling spots.

And now it’s Craig’s Dance Party. Fun-fun-fun. Thought it was “I’m Coming Out” there for a second... but it’s “Rollercoaster.”

Awwwww... he’s left all alone. Nice. Now will they roll the credits?

The smoking jacket and black and white video ending is shades of “Roseanne”’s wrap: poetry and her laugh. And then no credits but just a silent copyright was classy like the ending of “Blackadder Goes Forth,” where everyone died after going over the top and getting shot by the Germans.

What else is on?... Oh BOY! It’s my favorite Clorox infomercial!...
