Okay, I have been informed by my father that I confused Knute Rockne (portrayed by Pat O'Brien, no apparent relation to the Access Hollywood co-anchor) and George "The Gipper" Gipp, which Ronald Reagan portrayed. See the proof at IMDB's entry for "Knute Rockne All American".
